Chris Squadrito

Writer \ Director

Chris is an award-winning writer, director and script editor based in Sydney, with a distinct passion for television.

In 2023, Chris’ dark comedy web series Vanlife (Emotional), which he wrote, directed and produced, enjoyed a successful festival run, in which it was nominated for and won over a dozen awards at events including C21, Marseille Webfest, Toronto International Webfest, Stareable NYC, and SPAA. He is currently developing the project further as a long-form series with Odeon Pictures in Germany.

He began his career in scripted development for Essential Media with Ian Collie (Rake), where he contributed to projects for A-list practitioners including Blake Ayshford, Debra Oswald and Tony McNamara. He recently script edited Goalpost’s 2018 Foxtel miniseries Fighting Season, as well as their 2019 miniseries A Dry, Quiet War. He also script edited and wrote on Netflix’s first Australian Original series Tidelands (2018), from Steve Irwin and Hoodlum Entertainment.

He holds a Masters in Screenwriting from AFTRS, where he penned the award-winning short film By This River (Dir. Melissa Anastasi, 2013), an adaptation of Christos Tsiolkas’ The Disco At The End Of Communism, selected for Flickerfest and the Upsala Film Festival, and was the recipient of the prestigious Foxtel Award for Exceptional New Talent. He is also currently undertaking his Honours in Psychology, which he finds feeds into his screenwriting practice, providing him with an invaluable insight into character psyche and the human condition.

Chris is currently developing his own original series, Half A Man, which follows a 30-year-old personal trainer, who after outing himself as bisexual, is determined to keep his marriage afloat and his masculinity intact - but soon finds his newfound evolution shifting the very nature of his relationship, his family, and his group of all-too Australian mates. The series has recently received Screen Australia development funding.
