Emily Ballou is an Australian poet, novelist and screenwriter. Her novels Father Lands and Aphelion were published by Picador Australia in 2002 and 2007 respectively. Her first picture-book, One Blue Sock (illustrated by Stephen Michael King), was published by Random House. Her verse-portrait of Charles Darwin was published by University of Western Australia Press in 2009. The Darwin Poems was awarded the Wesley Michel Wright Poetry Prize in 2009, highly commended in the Anne Elder Award and shortlisted for the NSW Premier’s Prize, the Western Australian Premier’s Prize, the Mary Gilmore Prize and the ALS Gold Medal.
