Costume Designer
Erin Roche is an award-winning costume designer, with over 20 years’ experience in leading costume departments for feature films and premium television. Erin is a Doctor of Creative Industries, graduating from Queensland University of Technology. Her career highlights include her award winning work on the critically acclaimed film High Ground, directed by Stephen Maxwell Johnson (Bunya Productions/ Savage Films, 2020), for which she was awarded an AACTA award for Best Costume Design.
In 2024 Erin designed on FAKE (Kindling Pictures, Paramount+), directed by Emma Freeman and produced by Imogen Banks and Emelyne Palmer. In 2022, Erin designed the costumes on the television series The Clearing (Wooden Horse/Disney+), working with long-time collaborator Nicholas Verso. Erin also designed the costumes for Crazy Fun Park (Werner Film Productions/ABC). In 2021 Erin worked on season one of Victoria’s largest television productions, La Brea (NBCUniversal). In 2020, Erin stepped in to complete the costume design for Matchbox Pictures’ award-winning Clickbait Netflix series.
In 2018, Erin graduated from Queensland University of Technology as a Doctor of Creative Industries. Her doctoral research focused on the role of the costume designer in characterisation for film and television. Erin developed a philosophy for the practice of costume design based on the triangulation of embodiment of character, voice of the designer and collaboration. In 2016 Erin was awarded a Churchill Fellowship which aims to reward individuals who possess passion and a commitment to make a difference in Australian society. The successful fellowship took Erin on a 7-week professional and personal development journey, working with costume designers, galleries, producers and production companies in London, New York, Los Angeles, Paris and Vancouver. The results of the fellowship enabled Erin to expand her own design practice and networks and share her findings with the film and TV community upon her return to Australia.
Erin’s other acclaimed productions include the feature film, Lone Wolf (Future Pictures, 2021), directed by Jonathan Ogilvie and produced by Lee Hubber and Mat Govoni. The film stars AACTA winning actor Hugo Weaving and was premiered at the 2021 Melbourne International Film Festival, followed by a World Premiere at the 50th annual International Film Festival Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Most recently, Erin designed on the TV series Family Next Door (Beyond Entertainment/ABC), directed by Emma Freeman.
