Production Designer
Helen O’Loan is an acclaimed Australian Production Designer working across film, television, and commercial projects.
Most recently, Helen worked on season two of the Emmy-nominated series Deadloch (Amazon Studios) with directors Beck Cole and Gracie Otto. Prior to this, she worked on both seasons of Black Snow (Goalpost Pictures, STAN), with her work on season one earning her an AACTA nomination for Best Production Design. She also designed the global Netflix hit Mother of the Bride (dir. Mark Waters), which reached over 77 million views in its first two months.
Helen’s work on Audrey (dir. Natalie Bailey), a darkly funny feature about a girl in a coma, was praised for shaping the film’s unique tone. The film premiered at SXSW 2024 and went on to screen at BFI London Film Festival and MIFF before streaming on Netflix.
Other projects include A Perfect Pairing (Netflix), The Portable Door (The Jim Henson Company/Sky), Harrow Season 3 (ABC) and the Nike / FIFA Brazil ‘Joga Sempre’ campaign, ‘a playful romp set in a hotel that's been taken over by the Brazilian National Women's soccer team’, for dir. Sarah Chatfield.
Her expertise and approach developed in Oscar, BAFTA, AACTA and ADG winning art departments (The Great Gatsby, Unbroken, Pirates of the Caribbean, Chronicles of Narnia, Peter Rabbit). She also has extensive experience in the field of advertising, having designed many commercials and installations.
Originally from Melbourne and trained in Sydney with an MA in Production Design from AFTRS, Helen’s international experience living in Tokyo, Hong Kong, London, and now Queensland, informs her creative approach. She is known for crafting nuanced spaces and bold visuals that support key themes and thriving in the collaborative process.
Helen is a member of the Australian Production Design Guild (APDG).
