Vicki Laveau-Harvie shortlisted in the NSW Premier's Literary Awards for THE ERRATICS

Congratulations to Vicki Laveau-Harvie on being shortlisted in the Douglas Stewart prize for non-fiction, 2019 NSW premier's literary awards for her memoir, The Erratics

Set in the province of Alberta, Canada, The Erratics is the story of the author’s parents — of a mother who is hospitalised after a lifetime of undiagnosed but increasingly evident mental illness and of a father who has been kept prisoner by his wife in their home. When the father is finally freed from her controlling clutches, he slides into dementia. In taut, often deeply poetic prose, and not without humour, Laveau-Harvie details the bizarre decline of her parents’ last years and the varying agony of herself and her sister as they attempt to deal with the situation.

Contemporary works by leading and emerging Australian writers have been shortlisted for the 2019 NSW Premier's Literary Awards, the State Library of NSW announced on Thursday 28 February 2019. The NSW Premier’s Literary Awards have a proud history, both in celebrating achievement by Australian writers and in helping to establish values and standards in Australian literature. 2019 marks the 40 year anniversary of the Awards. The winners will be announced on Monday 29 April 2019.
