Pip Karmel to Adapt Genevieve Gannon’s Bestselling Book 'The Mothers' for Television

Genevieve Gannon’s best-selling book The Mothers, is set to be adapted for television by Academy-Award nominated filmmaker, Pip Karmel, in conjunction with Screen NSW and Goalpost Television. Genevieve and Pip are both Cameron’s clients.

Set in suburban Sydney, this gripping family drama was inspired by a real-life case of an IVF laboratory
mix-up and asks – ‘What if you gave birth to someone else's child?’

Allen & Unwin publisher Annette Barlow says from the moment she started reading she knew the story would be a hit with readers. “I grabbed the opportunity of publishing Genevieve Gannon’s wonderful
novel, The Mothers. Gen is such a talent and her novel is heart-wrenching. It hooks you in from
the start and never lets go. I warn you, tissues will be needed before the end. I can see Pip
Karmel turning The Mothers into a fantastic screen adaptation.”

Genevieve’s agent, Jeanne Ryckmans from Cameron’s Management said of the deal, “There was a
major bidding war to option The Mothers for screen. Goalpost Television and Pip Karmel are the
perfect partnership to bring Gen's contemporary story - one that is richly layered with ethical,
personal and legal tangles - to the screen.”

The series, filmed in Greater Sydney, will highlight major NSW talent, and will sit alongside Goalpost Television’s diverse and exciting slate created through their development deal with all3media. The company is currently in pre-production on New Gold Mountain a four-part Revisionist Western series for SBSTV and all3media
