Debra Oswald's 'Is There Something Wrong With That Lady?' Premieres at Griffin Theatre Company

Griffin Theatre Company premiered Cameron’s client Debra Oswald’s autobiographical one-woman show Is There Something Wrong With That Lady? last night to a sell out crowd.

Directed by Lee Lewis, the show examines Debra’s life as a playwright, television creator, former Junior Champion Hypochondriac and novelist.

In Is There Something Wrong With That Lady? Debra seizes control of the Griffin stage: the exact location she fell in love with theatre, aged 11, and the place her plays Mr Bailey’s Minder and The Peach Season came to life. In this funny and excruciatingly honest one-woman show, Debra tells stories about her neurotic childhood, clumsy romantic history, and the anxieties and joys of the writer’s life—all in the hope that the audience can help her work out that ever-important question: what comes next? And having waited for this show to be staged since its original 2020 season… it’s kind of urgent.

Debra Oswald is a two time winner of the NSW Premier’s Literary Award and is creator/head writer of the first five seasons of successful TV series Offspring. She is the author of the novels Useful and The Whole Bright Year. Her new novel The Family Doctor was published by Allen & Unwin in March 2021. Debra’s stage plays have been performed around the world and published by Currency Press. Gary’s House, Sweet Road and The Peach Season were all shortlisted for the NSW Premier’s Literary Award. Debra has also written four plays for young audiences—Dags, Skate, Stories in the Dark and House on Fire. Two of her plays have been on the Griffin stage—Mr Bailey’s Minder and The Peach Season. Her television credits include award-winning episodes of Police Rescue, Palace of Dreams, The Secret Life of Us, Sweet and Sour and Bananas in Pyjamas. She won an AFI/AACTA award for Best TV Screenplay for Offspring. Debra has written three Aussie Bite books for kids and six children’s novels, including The Redback Leftovers, Getting Air and Blue Noise.

Is There Something Wrong With That Lady? runs until April 24th, tickets can be purchased here.
