Theatre Round Up: Patricia Cornelius, Verity Laughton and Max Lyandvert

Patricia Cornelius’ In The Club, which first premiered at the STCSA as part of the Adelaide Festival in 2018 has now received it’s Melbourne debut at Theatre Works. This re-imagined production directed by Kitan Petkovski, also features songs by multi-award-winning recording artist Jaguar Jonze to create an empowering rally for change. Annie, Ruby and Olivia are going out. They want to get laid, get loose, get love — but they are women in a world of men. Not just any men, gods among men, their beloved boys, the boys of the AFL. And the rules of the game out there in the world of the night club and the dance floor are merciless, and the lines of division are clear.

A dramatist as fearless and uncompromising as Cornelius is a ferocious adversary. She writes with an energy, precision and unfailing instinct that match the genius of an elite athlete.” ★★★★ – The Age

In the Club is the kind of fearless social realism for which Cornelius has become renowned … It’s hot-button theatre that works whether you love, loathe or don’t give a damn about footy.” ★★★★ - Limelight

Verity Laughton’s adaptation of Pip William’s The Dictionary of Lost Words has now landed in Sydney at the Sydney Opera House, Drama Theatre. Cameron’s client Max Lyandvert was Composer and Sound Designer of the production. After its recent world premiere at the STCSA, the production will also tour Arts Centre Melbourne in February 2024 for a strictly limited season.

“Laughton’s script exceptionally translates the novel to stage…allow[ing] for greater emotional investment.” ★★★★Time Out

Tilda Cobham-Hervey, as Esme, is on stage almost throughout. She is extraordinary, transforming before our eyes from a child to a woman.” – The Sydney Morning Herald

In The Club is running at Melbourne’s Theatre Works till 11 November 2023. The Dictionary of Lost Words is running at the Sydney Opera House, Drama Theatre till 16 December 2023 and will then tour Arts Centre Melbourne from 17 February – 10 March 2024.
