Julia-Rose Lewis

Playwright/Screenwriter

Julia is a playwright and screenwriter.

She was the recipient of the 2014 Philip Parsons Award for Emerging Playwrights. Her first full-length play Samson premiered La Boite followed by Belvoir St Theatre in 2015 starring Ashleigh Cummings (Puberty Blues, Ch 10). Since then, Julia wrote Riley Valentine and Occupation of Fort Svalbard for Queensland Theatre Company’s Scene Project; a participatory arts educational program. She is also under commission with Belvoir St Theatre.

Julia’s monologue, This Feral Life, has been produced for both stage and as a short film (directed by Melissa Anastasi) and screened at Flickerfest 2015. It was also published as a part of ATYP’s The Voices Project.

She was a finalist in the State Library of Queensland’s Young Writers Award as well as ATYP’s Love Bytes Competition. Julia holds a Masters in Fine Arts (Playwriting) at NIDA.
