Liz Doran is a Sydney-based screenwriter for feature film and television.

Most recently, Liz developed and wrote two episodes of the Stan original series Prosper for Lingo Pictures. Liz was also the Co-creator, head writer and an Executive Producer of the drama series Barons, for production companies 2 Jons and Fremantle Media (currently streaming on ABC iView). The series was nominated for an AACTA Award for Best Mini Series.

In 2020 Liz produced (under her own production banner) the 6 x 10 min short-form online series The Tailings for SBS, winning an AACTA Award for Best Short Form Drama in 2021.

Liz was the Co-creator, Script Producer and head writer on the International Emmy nominated ABC series Ready For This.  She also script produced and wrote on all 4 seasons of ABC’s widely lauded Please Like Me, winning an AWGIE for her ‘Portuguese Tart’ script in Season 1, and was nominated for a NSW Premier's Award for her ‘Burrito Bowl’ script in Season 4, along with co-writers Josh Thomas and Thomas Ward. Liz also wrote on Series 1 - 5 of Essential Media/Easy Tiger’s Doctor Doctor, and Part 1 of Channel 7’s 2-part miniseries Molly based on the life of Molly Meldrum.

Other credits include episodes on ABC’s Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries, Rescue Special Ops, The Secret Life of Us, Carla Cametti PD, McLeod’s Daughters and the Emmy Award winning, BAFTA nominated UK drama series Sugar Rush. Liz was also the series story editor and writer for Seasons 1 – 3 of Dance Academy, a 26-part teen drama for the ABC.

Liz has worked as a script editor on projects across animation, television, and film, including The Square with producer Louise Smith, director Nash Edgerton and co-writers Joel Edgerton and Matthew Dabner, released in Australia and the US.

Liz is currently under commission with Belvoir Street Theatre to write an original new play, Bittersweet. She is also leading development on a new series for Jungle Entertainment, in addition to working with Lingo Pictures on 2 projects.
