Costume & Production Designer

Margot is one of Australia’s most experienced and highly regarded costume designers. She is best known for her costumes for John Hillcoat’s films. Her most recent collaboration with Hillcoat was Triple Nine (2016), which stars Kate Winslet, Casey Affleck, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Her other features with John Hillcoat include The Proposition (2005) starring Guy Pearce, Emily Watson and Ray Winstone, for which she won an Australian Film Institute Award in 2006; The Road (2009) starring Viggo Mortensen, Charlize Theron and Guy Pearce; and Lawless (2012) starring Jessica Chastain, Tom Hardy and Mia Wasikowska.

Margot was costume designer for Terrence Malick’s Oscar-nominated WWII epic, The Thin Red Line (1998) starring John Cusack, George Clooney, Adrian Brody and James Caviezel.  She production and costume designed the acclaimed feature film Jindabyne (dir. Ray Lawrence, 2006) and was costume designer for the multi-award-winning Lantana (dir. Ray Lawrence, 2001), for which she received an AFI Award nomination. Margot’s other credits include Japanese Story (dir. Sue Brooks, 2003) starring Toni Collette, La Spagnola (dir. Steve Jacobs, 2001) for which she was nominated for an AFI Award for costume design, Risk (dir. Alan White, 2000), Hunt Angels (dir. Alec Morgan, 2006), and Bran Nue Dae (dir. Rachel Perkins, 2009), which earned Margot another AFI nomination.

Margot’s television credits include Blackfella Films’ Mabo (dir. Rachel Perkins, 2012), and John Hillcoat's HBO pilot, Quarry (dir. Michael D. Fuller and Graham Gordy, 2016).

Other recent work includes Jasper Jones (dir. Rachel Perkins, 2017), the critically lauded The Daughter (dir. Simon Stone, 2015), and Jocelyn Moorhouse’s hit The Dressmaker (2015) for which she designed Kate Winslet’s costumes.  Margot won an AACTA Award and was nominated for a prestigious CDG Award for this film.

Margot has recently finished working on Causeway Films feature film Nightingale (dir. Jennifer Kent, 2018) and has been nominated for an APDG and AACTA Award for Best Costume Design in a Feature Film for her work on Jasper Jones (dir. Rachel Perkins, 2017).
