Marieke Hardy


Marieke Hardy is an experienced screenwriter ever since her first storyline was accepted by Channel 9’s Altogether Now at age fourteen.

Marieke has recently written Part 1 of the 2-parter for Fremantle Media’s Paul Hogan Miniseries, Hoges, and Matchbox’s Seven Types of Ambiguity and Nowhere Boys III. Her other credits include writing on The Family Law, Wonderland series 1 and 2, Mr & Mrs Murder, 30 Seconds, Spirited, Packed to the Rafters, Always Greener, Neighbours, McLeod’s Daughters, Something in the Air and Blue Heelers. Marieke was also a co-creator, co-writer and co-producer on the critically acclaimed ABC comedy series, Laid series 1 and 2, for which she won the 2011 AWGIE for Best Comedy – Situation or Narrative.

In addition to screenwriting, Marieke hosted the breakfast radio show on Triple J FM from 2007 – 2009 and, since 2005, has been a regular presenter on ABC’s The Book Club. She also co-curates the successful Melbourne-based and intermittently international literary salon Women of Letters (and also Men of Letters), which has been expanded to Sydney, Brisbane and several international festival events. The first Women of Letters collection was released in October 2011 with Penguin Books. Her first collection of essays, You’ll Be Sorry When I’m Dead, was released in 2011 with Allen and Unwin. Marieke has also a much-published columnist and influential blogger.

In November 2017, Marieke began her new appointment as the artistic director of Melbourne Writers' Festival. She's also currently developing a number of television and film projects.
