Michael Kalesniko wrote the story for 2015’s Burnt (dir. John Wells) starring Bradley Cooper, Sienna Miller, Emma Thompson and Uma Thurman. Other writing feature credits include Pandaland, a Chinese/NZ co-production, Iron Sky, co-written (dir. Timo Vueronsola); the comedy hit Howard Stern’s Private Parts (dir. Betty Thomas); and the indie film starring Kenneth Branagh and Robin Wright Penn, How to Kill Your Neighbor’s Dog, which he also directed. How to Kill Your Neighbor’s Dog went on to win best feature at the Philadelphia Film Festival, the New York Film Festival, and the Avignon Film Festival and was the prestigious closing night gala of the Toronto International Film Festival.
Michael sold the original series Covenants to FX network and Street Clothes to ABC network. His adaption of the novel Fake! written by “Hoax” author Clifford Irving was set up at UK production company F&ME with Julien Temple attached to direct.
He has written or re-written over 27 scripts for all the major studios and networks. He has also published numerous short stories and a novel, Pucker Up. At various times, Michael has worked as an English Teacher in the arctic, a news reporter and a grave digger.
