Stephen McCallum has garnered a reputation for creating dynamic stories with a distinctive voice and strong artistic vision. Stephen's first feature 1%, produced by See Pictures, had its World Premiere at the Toronto Film Festival last year and will have its Australian Premiere at the Sydney Film Festival. In 2015 he was the Second Unit Director on Endemol and the Nine Network’s Gallipoli and in 2014 Stephen was named as the recipient of the Director’s Attachment Scheme, funded by Screen Australia and managed by the ADG. He was attached to the feature film Cut Snake (dir. Tony Ayres).
As an AFTRS graduate directing student he was awarded both the Foxtel Exceptional Talent and AFTRS EU Scholarships. During his time there he directed the short films Girl Next Door (2010) and Inferno (2011) as well as the short documentaries Help (2010), Witness and The Mirror (2011). Prior to that Stephen wrote and directed the FTI funded Link short Ambulance (2010) and the award winning Revel 8 short [+ -] (2009). His documentary works include the ABC funded street art doco ReFace (2009) and the making of featurette for Ben C. Lucas' acclaimed film Wasted on the Young (2009). As a music video director, Stephen has a portfolio of over 20 clips including artists such as Snowman, End of Fashion and Sugar Army. He was awarded the WAMI and WA Screen Award twice for best music video.
Additionally, Stephen directed GetUp! Australia's It's Time (2011) viral spot, as part of their campaign for marriage equality. The clip was an online sensation with over 16,000,000 hits, winning Best Viral Advert from AdNews. Stephen is currently in development on various projects set up at with a number of respected Australian and Inernational Production Comapnies.
