Production Designer

Steven Jones-Evans is one of Australia’s most prominent and prolific production designers.

Steven’s recent credits include the psychological horror film, Relic (dir. Natalie Erika James, 2019) for Carver Films, Nine Stories and AGBO – for which he was nominated for an APDG Award for Best Production Design in Feature Film; Hotel Mumbai (dir. Anthony Maras/ Arclight Films, 2019) which earned him an AACTA Award nomination for Best Production Design; the critically acclaimed Breath (dir. Simon Baker/ See Pictures, 2017); Partisan (wr/dir. Ariel Kleiman/ Warp Films, 2015) and The Daughter (dir. Simon Stone/ Wildflower Films, 2015), which was also AACTA nominated for Best Production Design.

Steven’s other credits include The Railway Man (dir. Jonathan Teplitzky/ Archer street Productions, 2013), the NBC Universal/Matchbox television series Camp (2013), Adoration (dir. Anne Fontaine/ Hopscotch Features, 2013), Burning Man (dir. Jonathan Tepliztky/ Archer Street Productions, 2011) and The Hunter (dir. Daniel Nettheim/ Porchlight Films, 2011), with the latter two earning him AACTA nominations for Best Production Design, The Tree (dir. Julie Bertuccelli/ Goalpost Pictures, 2010), Unthinkable (dir. Gregor Jordan/ LLeju Productions, 2010), Knowing (dir. Alex Proyas/ Summit Entertainment, 2009), Buffalo Soldiers (dir. Gregor Jordan/ Film 4, 2001), Two Hands (dir. Gregor Jordan/ Umbrella Entertainment, 1999), Ned Kelly (dir. Gregor Jordan/ Working Title Films, 2003), Metal Skin (dir. Geoffrey Wright/ Daniel Scharf Productions, 1994) and Romper Stomper (dir. Geoffrey Wright/ Daniel Scharf Productions, 1992), as well as the television series Wildside (dir. Michael Jenkins/ ABC, 1998).

His work has earned numerous nominations and his awards include the AFI award for Best Production Design in 1995 for Metal Skin and again in 2003 for Ned Kelly. Steven also won the IF award for Best Production Design in 2003 for Ned Kelly.

Most recently, Steven designed Benjamin Millepied’s debut feature film, Carmen (2022). Carmen is a modern-day reimagining of the famous opera, and a co-production between the French production Company, Chapter 2, and Australian production Company, Goalpost Pictures. Steven also worked on the anthology series, Roar (2002, Apple Tv Plus), for Made Up Stories and Blossom Films - ‘The Woman Who Ate Photographs’, the Nicole Kidman starring episode of the series.

He is currently serving as the production designer on David Michôd’s latest feature Wizards! (SeeSaw Films, Plan B Entertainment and A24).
