Writer

A screenwriter and playwright, Tamara Asmar has been writing for television for several years.

Most recently Tamara has been a writer on Essential Media’s television drama Doctor Doctor and is currently working on Doctor Doctor series 2.

Tamara previously has worked as a script editor on Cleverman 2, participated in Playmaker Media’s Scribe showrunner program and also worked with Playmaker as script editor/writer on Love Child 2.  She has written extensively for Screentime (Crownies, Tricky Business) and her short film, Census, was selected for the Flickerfest International Film Festival in 2013.

Tamara wrote three episodes of the live-action children’s series Sam Fox: Extreme Adventures (SLR/Channel 10), wrote the pilot for another SLR live-action children’s series, The Alice-Miranda Mysteries as well as Beyond Productions’ animated children’s series, Beat Bugs.

A graduate of the esteemed NIDA Playwright’s Studio, Tamara wrote the play Sabur while there. She has had two plays produced for the Old Fitzroy Theatre, Ninja and Belle’s Line, along with other short plays Class for the 24 Hour Play Generator, Griffin Theatre and Queen of the Night for Brand Spanking New (New Theatre). She was also shortlisted for the Philip Parsons Playwright’s Award for her play submission Radio Pictures for Company B Belvoir in 2009.
