Vale Michael Jenkins (1946 - 2024)

We are sorry to announce that the multi-award winning film and television director and writer Michael Jenkins, has died

His credits include writing the acclaimed feature Careful He Might Hear You, which earned him the AFI Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Additionally, he directed notable films such as Emerald City and Sweet Talker. His film The Heartbreak Kid earned him a nomination for the AFI Award for Best Director and won the Best Screenplay award at the Montreal World Film Festival. Rebel also received recognition, earning him a nomination for the AFI Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.

In the world of television, Michael contributed as a writer for Water Under the Bridge and directed Scales of Justice, Dirtwater Dynasty (which he also wrote), and Leaving of Liverpool, which won him the AFI Award for Best Television Miniseries or Telefeature. Blue Murder was another success story, securing both a AFI and Logie Awards for Most Outstanding Achievement in Drama Production. 

He was series creator, director, writer, executive producer, and script editor on the television series Heartbreak High and Young Lions and series creator, executive producer, director, and script editor on Wildside which won a Logie award and numerous AFI awards over the years.

In 2016, Michael directed and produced the two-part miniseries Blue Murder: Killer Cop.

Michael Jenkins' contributions to the entertainment industry will be well remembered, and his legacy as a filmmaker and storyteller will endure.
